SUMMARY:

This research investigates school effectiveness in Brazilian basic education, linking intra-school factors, such as physical infrastructure and digital connectivity, to educational performance and equity. The study is structured into two complementary axes: a systematic review of national scientific production on school effectiveness from 2000 to 2024 and an empirical analysis of teachers' perceptions regarding the physical and digital conditions of schools, based on data from Equidade.Info. The literature review highlights a consolidated academic production, mainly based on data from the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb) and multilevel models, but also reveals significant gaps, such as the underrepresentation of specific educational stages and the need for greater integration between qualitative and quantitative approaches. The empirical findings indicate that, although essential services such as running water, restrooms, and electricity are widely available, challenges remain regarding ventilation, school supplies, and the pedagogical use of the internet. Digital connectivity, although present, still faces limitations related to network stability and connection speed, compromising its educational potential. Furthermore, teachers present distinct evaluations of their schools as workplaces and as learning environments for their own children. The articulation between theoretical and empirical findings reinforces the central role of intra-school factors in promoting educational effectiveness, indicating that the quality of infrastructure and connectivity directly impacts teaching and learning conditions. This study contributes to advancing research on school effectiveness and educational equity in Brazil, providing insights for future investigations and for improving public policies aimed at the success of basic education in the country.
