This dissertation, entitled "The University of Brasília in the Correio Braziliense (1960-1964)", was developed in the field of the history of education and is linked to the Graduate Program in Professional Education at the Faculty of Education of the University of Brasília. The study employs the concepts of representation and cultural history. The research contextualizes the history of the creation of the University of Brasília, considering its structure and significance as a higher education institution for the city of Brasília and for Brazil. The work is organized into three chapters: 1 – The Process of Establishment and Management of the Necessary University; 2 – The University in Action: Teaching, Research, and Cultural Extension; and 3 – Technical Product. Additionally, the study covers the ideas and actions of Darcy Ribeiro, the founder of UnB, as a "Necessary University." The period of analysis (1960 to 1964) encompasses the moment of conception, creation, realization, and the institution's initial crisis. The general objective of the study was to understand the establishment, management, teaching, research, and cultural extension of UnB from an everyday perspective, based on what was published by the Correio Braziliense newspaper. The research problem consisted of analyzing how UnB was structured in terms of its management, teaching, research, and extension, revealing the challenges and dynamics experienced during the defined period. The dissertation sought to offer a different perspective from the discourse commonly used in traditional historiography research, prioritizing the representations and everyday experiences of UnB in its early years. In summary, the dissertation highlights how UnB's management, teaching, research, and extension were shaped and how these dimensions were represented by the media.
