ART-EDUCATION AS A VEHICLE FOR EXPRESSING THE IDENTITY OF REFUGEES
art; education; identity; refugees; human rights
In this project we will address art-education as a strategy that can help refugees insert themselves into the Brazilian culture and its interconnection with human rights. We seek to explore art as a personal manifestation, as an element that can help in the expression of identity, and assist in the integration of refugees into the culture of their host country, respecting their own cultural roots. Throughout the project, in conjunction with the bibliography, it will be possible to better understand the importance of arteducation for refugees. This research will have a focus on the Venezuelan refugees hosted in the Casa Bom Samaritano, located in Brasilia, Distrito Federal. The research will use the methodology of (auto)biographical narratives and will be qualitative. In all, 10 refugees were interviewed, 6 women and 4 men. The age range of the people interviewed was from 24 years to 40 years. At the time of the interviews, 40 Venezuelan people lived in the Casa Bom Samaritano. Three visits were made to the institution for the interviews.
