SUMMARY:

This study analyzed the interaction between the University of Brasília and public schools in the Federal District through university extension activities. It focused on seven extension projects developed between 2020 and 2024 as part of the “Licenciaturas em Ação” calls for proposals, carried out in schools of the Federal District’s Department of Education. This applied research, with a qualitative approach, examined the contribution of university extension to the initial training of undergraduate student participants, to the continuing education of in-service teachers, and to the improvement of education quality in basic education. The results indicate that extension initiatives create opportunities for students to develop professional skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, and problemsolving, as well as foster commitment to social issues. Furthermore, extension activities can contribute to the professional development and updating of participating teachers, encouraging innovation in their pedagogical practices. However, despite the benefits of extension for teacher development, their perception still tends to focus primarily on the impact on students. The research highlights the importance of extension as a space for dialogue and collaboration between universities and schools, while also pointing to the need for greater openness to school participation in the design of projects, so that they can respond to school demands and collaboratively build innovative solutions to educational challenges. This partnership enables academia to recognize the problems faced by school communities and fosters the sharing of knowledge, enhancing both institutions and opening paths for future research.
