SUMMARY:

This research presents an analysis, for the teaching of History, of three comic books published in Brazil since the 2000s that have stood out in the field of Sequential Art: Cumbe, Persepolis, and Palestine, all of which address themes of coloniality and decoloniality. The analysis aimed to explore how these works can be incorporated into the teaching of History, considering their contributions. Thus, the objective was to discuss how to analyze comics in an accessible and practical way, taking into account the daily life of teachers while highlighting a decolonial perspective, bringing discussions on how various non-white and female bodies are represented, as well as the relationship between humans, nature, and spirituality. All these themes are interconnected in the search for coloniality effects present in these three comics. The decolonial perspective is one of the theoretical foundations of this investigation. It seeks an epistemic and social shift, confronting the hegemonies that shape society and proposing new dynamics from the standpoint of the subalternized. The focus is to contribute to decolonial pedagogies, as advocated by Catherine Walsh, which seek new forms of education that do not perpetuate the axes of coloniality: power, being, knowledge, and living. For the analyses, the comic book analysis methodology proposed by Márcia Tavares Chico was employed. This methodology consists of a three-step analysis: structural analysis (constitutive elements of comics), contextual analysis (both internal and external contexts of the work), and qualitative analysis (data interpretation according to the adopted theoretical perspective, in this case, the decolonial perspective). Based on these references, three selected comics were analyzed. These three works offer different views on the decolonial issue, particularly in terms of marginal perspectives, known and silenced histories. They also enable discussions on histories of struggle and resistance, involving identity and cultural issues, the impact of political oppression, gender perspectives and female representation, and human-nature relations. Therefore, these comics allow a decolonial perspective, bringing issues directly related to these themes into the pedagogical agenda.
