Affirmative actions: multiple case study on the implementation of the racial quota policy in stricto sensu postgraduate studies at the University of Brasília and the Federal University of Goiás.
Affirmative actions; stricto sensu postgraduate studies; University of Brasilia; Federal University
of Goiás.
In public universities, there has been a significant and growing diffusion of inclusion policies,
mainly due to the approval of resolutions in their university councils, determining that their
postgraduate programs create affirmative actions in their selection processes, in an attempt to
encourage the entry of the black population into this level of education. This research is built on
the Public Policy and Education Management Concentration Area of the Postgraduate Program
in Education – Professional at the University of Brasília. The objective of this multiple case study
is to compare the instruments for implementing the racial quota policy in the stricto sensu
postgraduate programs at the University of Brasília (UnB) and the Federal University of Goiás
(UFG) and also to analyze admission data in order to identify possible contributions between the
institutions. Based on studies by Bernardino-Costa (2024), Feres Júnior (2018), Gomes (2022)
and Venturini (2023) on the implementation of racial quotas in education, it was possible to verify
that, although there are points of contribution between the two institutions researched, both are
aligned with the majority of Brazilian universities that introduced affirmative action policies, which
did so without, however, implementing deeper changes that actually seek to include minority
groups.
