SUMMARY:

This dissertation investigates the inclusion and depth of discussions on ethnic-racial relations in medical education, through the perceptions of students at the University of Brasília School of Medicine as curricular actors. The objective was to understand the expectations, experiences, and proposals of students regarding the topic of racism in medical education. To this end, a qualitative workshop structured in three stages: problem, experience, and proposal, was held with the participation of eight students. The findings indicate that, despite the students' prior knowledge and high expectations, the approach to racism in graduate programs is superficial, fragmented, and lacking in effective practices. There was unanimity regarding the need to mainstream anti-racist discussions in the curriculum, train faculty, and employ participative methodologies. The results highlight the urgency of incorporating critical content about racism and health equity into medical education, aiming to raise awareness and engage future professionals in addressing inequalities in the Brazilian healthcare system.
