SUMMARY:

The objective of this study is to describe aspects related to the teaching-learning process based on concepts of information literacy and information mediation as a pedagogical practice at the Central Library of the University of Brasília (BCE). The dissertation analyzes the paths taken by librarians and learners in the process of information retrieval in virtual environments. The study demonstrates the use of the reference service in the university library, which aims to assist researchers in using electronic information resources to build more efficient search strategies in databases. It relates the knowledge necessary for the work of the reference librarian in conducting the process of searching for scientific information. The methodological approach combines two approaches: in the first part, it uses ethnographic study to observe the interaction between specialist librarians and apprentices. In the second part, content analysis is used to code the transcripts and categorize the audio recordings of five consultations, which are then examined and organized using ATLAS.ti software in order to map the information search processes in virtual environments by the academic community. The resulting technical product proposes a library support guide, material aimed at conducting individualized service and improving reference services in the library environment.
