This study aims to analyze the consolidation process of the Higher School of Fire and Disaster Sciences (Escola Superior de Ciência do Fogo e do Desastre – ESCFD), accredited by the Ministry of Education (MEC) as a public Higher Education Institution (HEI), linked to the Military Fire Department of the Federal District (CBMDF), with a focus on the challenges and strategies related to its consolidation as an HEI, its Knowledge Management (KM), and its Financial Sustainability. The study is grounded in Dimensions I and X of the National System for the Evaluation of Higher Education (Sistema Nacional de Avaliação da Educação Superior – SINAES). In a multipaper format, it discusses the pedagogical conception of the HEI as a school, positioning it at the intersection of Higher Education (HE) and Military Firefighter Education (MFE), supported by Fire and Disaster Sciences, an emerging field of research. The methodology adopted was a case study with a bibliographic, exploratory, and qualitative approach, including interviews with key actors involved in the conception of the HEI, in the Knowledge Management of the Military Firefighter Education System (SEBM), and in the Financial Sustainability of the HEI. An action research approach is used for the development of the technical outputs. The study seeks to contribute to the understanding of the role of ESCFD within the CBMDF and in public higher education
