The Basic Education Assessment System (SAEB), established in 1990, has become one of the main diagnostic tools for education in Brazil, providing relevant data to guide public policies and pedagogical decisions nationwide. The 2019 update of reference matrices, aligning SAEB descriptors with the skills of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), intensified the need to integrate external assessments into the school curriculum. However, a gap remains between the results provided by SAEB and their effective application in pedagogy. This study aims to investigate how elementary school managers and teachers use SAEB data to guide their pedagogical practices, with an emphasis on the analysis of descriptors, the development of assessment tools aligned with the BNCC, and a proposal of continuing education programs that address everyday school demands. The research adopts a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive approach, conducted in public elementary schools. Participants include school managers and early years teachers, and data will be collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. Data using content analysis, linking empirical categories to the theoretical dimensions of the study. The investigation seeks to foster a critical, ethical, and formative assessment culture, reinterpreting SAEB data as tools for learning, and human development, bringing them closer to daily practices and challenging the merely performative logic.
