SUMMARY:

This research addresses educational environments that promote literacy and aims to analyze how the combined use of shared reading and materials in educational situations favors the development of phonemic awareness in children. In the repertoire of pedagogical elements used in the classroom, it is noticeable that the use of children's stories is part of the planning of a large number of educators. While objects, despite all the richness of meaning they contain, are mostly used in a more playful, secondary, or unintentional way. To investigate this environment, the research was conducted in a first-grade class in a public school in the Federal District. The participants were 16 children (aged between 5 and 6 years) and the class teacher. The methodological instruments used for data collection, analysis, construction, and interpretation were: nonparticipant observation; co-intervention; interviews; and microgenetic analysis of videos. At the end of the study, it was observed that the results of the interventions using stories and objects not only contributed to the acquisition or improvement of the phonemic performance levels of the children in the class, but also favored other learning. Thus, it is hoped that the results discussed here can contribute to broadening the range of possibilities for pedagogical strategies used with children, especially those focused on literacy practices
