SUMMARY:

Architectural projects are comprised of multiple interfaces grounded in theoretical, scientific, socioeconomic, cultural, and historical frameworks (Ching, 2016). The quality of the built environment and the construction process are influenced by a myriad of interconnected factors. This research delves into the interplay between architectural design and its corresponding built environment. Specifically, it examines how architects' decisions regarding performance, such as acoustics, lighting, and thermal comfort, manifest in the constructed space. The study aimed to validate the significance of computational simulations in the construction of residential and mixed-use buildings in Brasília. By considering the prevalent construction typology of the Plano Piloto and the performance benchmarks outlined in standard 15575 (ABNT, 2013), the research compared simulation results with on-site measurements. The investigation also explored the impact of building codes on the thermal, lighting, and acoustic performance of structures, assessing the efficacy of computational simulations in predicting these attributes. A computational simulation provided by the developer, coupled with on-site data, served as the methodological foundation. The findings underscored the value of computational simulations as a design tool, capable of forecasting and optimizing building performance in terms of thermal comfort, lighting, and acoustics. Simulations effectively identified potential performance issues, including overheating, inadequate illumination, and excessive noise levels, prior to construction. A comparison of simulated and measured data confirmed the accuracy of the simulations in representing real-world building performance. The northwest facade emerged as a critical area demanding additional shading strategies, such as... to enhance overall building performance. In relation to NBR 15575, the analyzed buildings were found to meet the minimum requirements for thermal, lighting, and acoustic performance.
