SUMMARY:

This research analyzes the urbanization process of Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil, between 1930 and 1970, seeking to understand how representations, urban planning knowledge, and public and private agents contributed to the production of urban space. It is based on the hypothesis that the city's urbanization resulted from the convergence of historical narratives, the circulation and institutionalization of technical knowledge, and administrative practices that guided the materialization of urban transformations. Methodologically, the study is grounded in Urban History, combining documentary research with the analysis of legislation, urban plans, architectural projects, newspapers, historical photographs, maps, drawings, administrative records, and public and private archives, together with a review of the literature on urbanism, the circulation of knowledge, and the institutionalization of urban planning in Brazil. The study is organized around three analytical axes. The first examines the representations constructed about Anápolis through historiography, the press, and collective memory, highlighting the formation of narratives that associated the city with progress, modernity, and development. The second addresses the circulation of urban planning knowledge, discussing the constitution of urbanism as a technical field, the role of the Estado Novo, municipalism, institutional networks, conferences, technical assistance agencies, and the insertion of Anápolis into these national circuits, culminating in the preparation of the Master Plan led by Luís Saia and Heitor Ferreira. The third analyzes the materialization of this knowledge through the actions of public authorities, specialized professionals, urban development companies, and private agents responsible for territorial expansion, infrastructure implementation, urban regulation, and the development of neighborhoods and subdivisions. The partial results indicate that the urbanization of Anápolis cannot be understood solely as a consequence of economic or demographic growth, but rather as the expression of a historical process involving the circulation, appropriation, and institutionalization of technical knowledge, articulated with political disputes, economic interests, and the different scales of action of the State and private initiative. Although this stage of the research presents partial results, the analyses developed demonstrate the relevance of networks for the circulation of ideas, administrative instruments, and the agents involved in the constitution of the city, establishing the foundations for the further analyses to be developed in the subsequent stages of the dissertation.
