Dimensioning of double curved glass roof (NURBS) with programming and BIM.
Pre-dimensioning, double curvature roof (NURBS), glass, Grasshopper, BIM.
The main problems to be solved in this thesis are: Due to the lack of available information, how can the size and thickness of the glass panels in the curved envelope be pre-dimensioned based on the displacement of the supporting structure? How do other architects and engineers calculate and define the necessary pre-dimensioning for laminated glass in this type of architecture? What procedures and tools are required for this pre-dimensioning? It is possible to develop formulas for the dimensioning of glass panels in double and multi-curvature surfaces, based on generalizations obtained from a substantial number of architectural precedents consisting of complex curved envelopes. These generalizations can be based on the history of the formulation of existing technical standards and used in the calculations of these and other precedents. It is possible to develop procedures for the precise and optimized dimensioning of NURBS double-curvature surface enclosure panels using a parametric/BIM system.
