The Contemporary House in Brasilia: A study from two eras.
Contemporary Architecture of Brasília; Architects of Brasília; Generations of Architects of Brasília; Houses of Brasília; Project Analysis
The aim of this doctoral thesis is to discuss the contemporary architectural production of the city of Brasília, with an emphasis on the last two decades of the 21st century. Residences were chosen, a typology that allows the inclusion of groups of architects highlighted in specialized journals and public project competitions since the 2000s. We start from the hypothesis that this contemporary generation has learned from the references of modern professionals in Brasilia, with modern architecture having an impact on contemporary production through forms, construction methods, and other possible relationships. The research objective is to relate the projects of these two generations, seeking the links between them, in order to understand the connections and ruptures between the two periods of architecture in the federal capital. The residences from the two periods are analyzed from a morphological perspective, without neglecting their functional, social, and symbolic aspects, which are important in understanding the ways of living characteristic of the two moments in the city, Brasília Bossa Nova and Contemporary Brasília.
