SUMMARY:

The aim of this thesis is to shed light on the heritage processes of Brasilia, Tel Aviv and Le Havre in a comparative way. The lack of comparative studies between these World Heritage cities indi-cates the importance of looking at the problems and potential faced by them in their respective heritage processes. The starting point is the perception that the application process of these urban complexes to the Unesco World Heritage List has the potential to contribute to the preservation of modern cities, not only those already recognized, but above all others that may apply for this title. The primary documentation found in the Unesco and Icomos archives, with the support of other documents linked to local archives, represents the input for the Comparative History method, used to extract information on the processes of patrimonialization. The thesis starts with the theories and practices that support the construction of modern urban heritage and then, from the earth, sand and rubble, it highlights the constructions of Brasilia, Tel Aviv and Le Havre. The text then moves on to the process of patrimonialization of cities and, finally, by listing the conditions for comparison, presents possible connections. The comparative reading of these research sources has contributed to the perception not only of how the candidacy of a property is constructed, but also of the work of international organizations and how different narratives are constructed until a modern city is recognized as a World Heritage Site.
