HBIM in documentation and safeguarding of Indigenous Architectural Heritage of Brazil.
HBIM, Cultural Heritage, Indigenous architecture
One of the main forms of domination within the colonization process is cultural imposition and the erasure of the memories of colonized peoples. The replacement of a people's traditional architecture with colonial architecture affects each group member emotionally and physically by disrupting their understanding of the world based on the knowledge of the built space in which they live. Documenting and safeguarding Brazilian indigenous architecture is extremely important in preserving this knowledge and in the decoloniality of architecture. The constant threat faced by indigenous peoples in Brazil highlights the urgent need to preserve their cultures and knowledge, as a way of protecting and perpetuating the existence of these peoples. Among the many ancestral knowledge and technologies present in Brazilian Indigenous culture, architecture is one of the cultural assets that best synthesizes and represents the presence and value of a people's material and immaterial cultural heritage. Recording and documenting buildings, construction processes, and technologies, is necessary in the mission of safeguarding this heritage as a way of preserving the memory of these peoples. The use of current technologies and computational tools can be of great value in the preservation of Brazilian indigenous architectural heritage. In this sense, this study seeks to explore the use of HBIM (Historic Building Information Modeling) technology as a tool to assist in the documentation, preservation, and dissemination of the material and immaterial architectural heritage of the indigenous peoples of Brazil, through the documentation of the construction process with the use of cadastral survey by point cloud with the use of drones and the HBIM modeling and parameterization of a traditional building of the Xavante people.
