SUMMARY:

Discussions about sustainability and climate change resulting from global warming span the most diverse thematic spheres, one of them being changes in the diet and way of life of the world's population. This can be an important factor in the development and worsening of public health issues, such as the global obesity epidemic. The increase in population weight adds and transforms the demands on Health Care Establishments, especially the physical infrastructure of the built environment. The need for this study arose from the current understanding that obesity can be considered the largest nutritional disorder worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, which also impacts users' demands on the built environment. Aiming to contribute to the investigation of architectural conditions that hinder Sustainable Humanization and Accessibility for Person with Severe Obesity weighing over 250kg in the environments of Health Care Establishments and understanding the role of architecture in the lack of access of obese people to health treatments, this research seeks to identify the main architectural criteria for accessibility, humanization of healthcare space, the main problems of architectural accessibility and their consequences for access to health treatments health of Person with Severe Obesity weighing over 250kg, as well as defining possible solutions to make the built environment more accessible without compromising other accessibility conditions and principles of the National Humanization Policy of the Brazilian Unified Health System. Through a literature review of medical guidelines, we analyzed the specific needs, skills and challenges faced by people with obesity on a daily basis, as well as the existence of accessibility guidelines for people with obesity in Brazil so that it could be understood what changes architectural elements are necessary to welcome the target audience. As partial results, it was obtained the proposition of a new parameter of the Reference Module present in the Brazilian Regulatory Standard 9050:2020 that contemplates the accessibility of people with obesity. Based on this proposition, the checklist of the Built Environment Accessibility Seal of the Sustainability Laboratory applied to Architecture and Urbanism was updated through adaptation and inclusion of built environment analysis items with accessibility parameters for Person with Severe Obesity from 250kg that will serve of tools for the application of the Post-Occupancy Assessment of the Specialized Center for Diabetes, Obesity and Hypertension in Brasília in the Federal District, Basic Unit of Health 01 of Asa Sul in Brasília in the Federal District and in the Specialized Center for Rehabilitation IV in Contagem in Minas Gerais. The results showed that architectural and urban accessibility focused on people with obesity is not satisfactory and that, often, there are no clear guidelines to make the healthcare environment accessible to this segment of the population.
